Zwanger zijn... Wat waren we blij om te horen dat we zwanger waren. Tijdens de zwangerschap hadden we er het samen al eens over gehad om beroep te doen op een 'doula'. Dus kwam Veerle erbij. Na enkele keren samen te komen tijdens de zwangerschap was het OK voor ons. We konden alles vragen en bespreekbaar maken. Dikwijls kon ik met mijn vragen beter bij Veerle terecht dan bij de gynaecoloog. Bij Veerle was alles zo vertrouwd en dat gaf ons een goed gevoel, ook wel omdat de zwangerschap vlot verlopen is.

Toen de bevalling begon, hebben we Veerle op de hoogte gebracht en kwam ze naar ons toe. Voor ons was het moment dat Veerle er was een hele geruststelling. Zolang de bevalling duurde, was het voor ons heel vertrouwd dat zij er was. Ik vond het heel fijn, ze stelde me gerust, gaf mijn vriend goede tips in hoe hij kon helpen. Voor ons ligt het voor 200 % vast dat de aanwezigheid van Veerle tijdens de bevalling zeer zeker heeft bijgedragen aan het goede verloop van de geboorte van onze prachtige dochter.

Ook na de bevalling alleen maar lof en dankbaarheid, zowel voor het advies over borstvoeding en andere kleine kwaaltjes. Ze is gewoon positief, met een luisterend oor maar vooral geruststellend.

“I just became a proud father to a baby girl. When my partner was pregnant she suggested to me that we should hire the services of a doula. I had no clear idea what a doula was until we went for the appointments to Veerle. We had information sessions with her about what to expect during the pregnancy. I accepted that we should take the service of Veerle mostly to please my partner. Then on the evening when my partner started having her labor contractions, I realized how useful the doula service is. I took her to the hospital. We got sent back home because it was too early and that she only had 1 cm opening. We call Veerle. She lives 80km away and she was there right when we needed her. She showed me several positions which I used to help my partner through the labor contraction. There was one position which really helped. During the contractions, my partner leaned back and I had to apply pressure on her lower back. When we were hungry she prepared food for us while I was with my partner during the labor contraction. That evening we went to the hospital, I was sitting at the back seat with my partner while Veerle was driving. It was very helpful that she could drive us to the hospital because I could then focus on my partner during the drive. Veerle stayed with us all the time during the labor till our beautiful baby girl was born. I am very glad that we took the service of a doula and find all the tips she gave us very useful especially breastfeeding tips. I recommend that all couples expecting a baby to hire the services of a doula. You will be very happy you did.
